Payette presents to Poroshenko a photo of Ukraine taken from space
Governor General of Canada Julie Payette has presented as a gift to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko a photo of Ukraine, which she took from outer space.
"I asked the governor general if she ever was in Ukraine. She gave a very interesting answer: 'This is my first visit to Ukrainian land, but ... I want to give you a photo of Ukraine that I took from outer space,'" Poroshenko said in a press statement after a meeting with Payette in Lviv on Thursday.
According to the head of state, he was very pleased to see "this fantastic photo."
"This was not a technical satellite photo. It was a photo taken heartily, when she was in space, and this photo will stay with me. Now it will be in the presidential office. I thank her for such a gift," Poroshenko added.
Payette was appointed 29th Governor General of Canada in July 2017, and she took office on October 2. Earlier, she was an astronaut of the Canadian Space Agency. She carried out two flights to the International Space Station.
