Saakashvili extradition not discussed at meetings in Kyiv - Georgian parliament speaker

Georgian Parliament speaker Irakly Kobakhidze, who is on an official visit to Kyiv, has said that none of his meetings with the Ukrainian authorities addressed the issue of extraditing Mikheil Saakashvili.

Kobakhidze told Georgian journalists on Thursday that he had met with Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman to discuss bilateral cooperation in politics and the economy.

"We did not discuss this issue [of Mikheil Saakashvili extradition] at any of the meetings. This issue is not urgent for us from a political viewpoint. This issue should be resolved in accordance with the law. For that reason, I don't think it should be addressed at our meetings," Kobakhide said.

The Georgian parliament's press service earlier told reporters that Kobakhidze would meet with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Ukrainian parliamentary speaker Andriy Parubiy during his visit to Kyiv on January 17-19.

Meetings with Groysman and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin are also planned.
