Ukrainian Navy helicopters, U.S. destroyer hold joint drills in Black Sea
The marine aviation of the Ukrainian Navy has held a joint drill with the United States Navy's USS Carney (DDG 64) destroyer in the Black Sea, the Navy command said in a statement on Friday.
The drills were aimed at practicing interaction at NATO standards and raising compatibility levels, the command said.
Ukraine's Kamov Ka-27PCh and Ka-27PR performed over ten landings on the U.S. ship in bad weather and conducted reconnaissance and surface monitoring.
"We have done this kind of joint training activity before. However, every chance to do so gives us additional knowledge and helps us master interacting with foreign colleagues at modern standards," the acting Ukrainian Navy Deputy Commander for Combat Training, Capt. 2nd Rank Andriy Kurylenko, said.
According to the statement, the USS Carney (DDG 64) arrived in Odesa on January 8. The friendship visit ended on January 11.
