Fire at Baumgarten gas hub in Austria now extinguished
The fire at the Baumgarten gas hub in Austria has now been extinguished, Gas Connect Austria said in a press release.
An explosion occurred on Tuesday morning before 9:00 a.m. on the grounds of the Baumgarten Natural Gas Station. One person was killed and 18 injured in the accident.
"The plant was shut down in a controlled state and is offline. The cause of the accident remains unclear; we are currently assuming it was a technical fault. Gas Connect Austria is already intensively investigating the potential causes of the incident. Austria's natural gas supply can be covered for the foreseeable future. Transit through Austria to the south and southeast regions is currently negatively impacted. The neighboring pipeline operators were informed immediately, so that they could introduce measures in a timely manner," Gas Connect Austria said.
