EU insists on ensuring autonomy of anti-corruption bodies in Ukraine
Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli stresses the need to provide autonomy for the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP), and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO).
We are grateful to the government and the president for the creation of NABU, NACP and SAPO. Well done. And now, please give these institutions autonomy and resources to carry out their tasks. Otherwise, they are of no use, Mingarelli said, speaking at the All-Ukrainian Civil Society Assembly "SMART reforms" in Kyiv on Friday.
He also stressed that the NABU should preserve its autonomy so that representatives of other bodies won't mess in their work.
Mingarelli added that NACP should be provided with proper tools for checking e-declarations.
