Poroshenko signs law making Christmas Day - Dec 25 day off in Ukraine
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed the law passed by the parliament declaring December 25 a day off in Ukraine abolishing a day off on May 2, according to the website of the Ukrainian parliament.
As reported, on November 16 people's deputies introduced Christmas on December 25 into the list of holidays and non-working days in the Labor Code of Ukraine and excluded the day off on May 2 from this list.
Ukrainian Orthodox and Greek Catholic Christians, who constitute the majority of Christians in the country, celebrate Christmas according to the Julian Calendar, on January 7, which has long been a day off in Ukraine.
