Speed limit in populated localities in Ukraine to be reduced to 50 km/h from 2018
The Cabinet of Ministers has established that speed limit in populated localities in Ukraine will be reduced to 50 km/h from January 1, 2018.
The respective resolution, No. 883 of November 10, was published in the government's Uriadovy Kurier newspaper.
According to the document, vehicles are allowed to drive in cities, towns and villages at a speed of no more than 50 km/h. Earlier, speed limit was 60 km/h.
The statement attached to the resolution says that this decision will help significantly increase the level of road safety and save people's lives. In most EU countries, the permitted speed of vehicles in populated localities is not more than 50 km/h, and in special localities it is 30 km/h.
Thus, the adoption of the act will help bring the national legislation closer to the legislation of the European Union.
The resolution comes into force on January 1, 2018.
