Kyiv demands end to conscription in Russia-annexed Crimea

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry has again demanded Russia end military conscription of citizens in Russia-occupied Crimea and Sevastopol.

"According to information of Russia's Defense Ministry, already more than 800 persons – residents of occupied Crimea – have been conscripted. During fall 2017 Russia plans to send more than 2,000 conscripts to Russian military units, include those not located in Crimea," Ukraine's Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Ukrainian diplomats added that the third committee of the United Nations General Assembly on November 14, 2017 in its draft resolution on the human rights situation in Crimea called on Russia to stop compelling residents of the peninsula to serve in the Russian military.
