EU Commissioner Hahn insists on probe into attacks, intimidation of Ukrainian journalists
EU Commissioner for the European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn insists on proper investigation of cases of intimidation and attacks on journalists, underscores the need for adequate financing of Public Broadcasting in Ukraine.
"Very interesting meeting with Ukrainian media actors. Worried about reports of intimidation and recent attacks against journalists. Proper investigations needed! Media freedom is indispensable for democracy!" he wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.
Hahn also noted that it is necessary to ensure proper financing of the public broadcaster: "National Public Service Broadcaster of Ukraine (UA:PBC) must get all financial resources it needs for this important work!"
As reported, Hahn is on a visit to Ukraine on November 15. The European commissioner has meetings with top government officials.
