Presidential administration awaiting signal about joining EU
Ukraine would like confirmation of its eurointegration ambitions in the near term, deputy Presidential Administration head Kostiantyn Yeliseyev has said.
"Ukraine would like a simple message [from the EU]: "As soon as you are ready, you are with us." Ukraine's task is to be ready. The task of the EU is to decide whether Ukraine is ready. This would mean everything for us and would cost the EU nothing," Yeliseyev told the Brussels-based EUobserver weekly edition.
According to Yeliseyev, the EU message would be a clear demonstration that the EU is truly "the bedrock of democracy, freedom and dignity," adding that that many European countries are suffering from Russia's hybrid war, including Ukraine.
"We, Ukrainians, are not asking the EU to fight for Europe in Donbas. We can fight. But the EU should say what we are fighting for," the diplomat said.
