Polish border guards detain 17 Ukrainians for violating rules of stay in country
Polish border guards have detained 17 Ukrainian citizens in Opole Province, because their stay in Poland was contrary to the declared goals and one of the detainees worked illegally, Radio Poland reported on November 8, citing captain of the Silesian department of the Polish Border Guard Service Katarzyna Walczak.
"Border guards established that the stay of foreigners in Poland contradicts the goals declared when applying for a visa at Polish consulates in Ukraine. In this regard, the commandant of the border guard service in Opole issued the decision for 16 Ukrainian citizens on the obligation of return [to Ukraine]," she said.
Another detainee, Walczak said, "was caught working illegally." The man did not have a work permit or a statement of the employer's intention to entrust the work to a foreigner. The court ruled that a Ukrainian citizen must pay a fine and leave Poland.
According to Walczak, the detention was made during a joint raid by border guards and inspectors of the State Labor Inspectorate in Opole, who checked compliance with the rules of legality of employment, labor law and safety regulations in a logistics center in Opole Province.
