'Backpack case' investigated long ago - MP Leschenko
MP Serhiy Leschenko has said that the case on the purchase of backpacks by the Ukrainian Interior Ministry in 2014-2015, in which the interior minister's son, Oleksnadr Avakov, is involved, was sent for approval by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) last winter.
"The case was investigated a long time ago, and for the first time the suspicion project was sent for approval from NABU to [SAPO Chief Nazar] Kholodnytsky last winter," he wrote on Facebook on October 31.
Leschenko also noted that the case itself had been worked out in detail.
"It is even known through which money laundering centers they cashed our state funds, which were transferred for the production of backpacks," he said.
According to the MP, the backpacks turned out to be 40-liter instead of 60-liter and were made of materials "that got soaked and burned."
He also believes that Arsen Avakov should leave the post of interior minister.
