Clean-up near villages close to Kalynivka complete, residents may return home - Groysman

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has said that residents of villages near Kalynivka, Vinnytsia region, can return home following operations to clean up the aftermath of explosions at ammunition depots.

"Important news for Kalynivka residents. At 15.00, the clean-up of explosive materials in and around villages in the area where locals were evacuated has been completed. Residents can return home," Groysman said on his Facebook page.

As earlier reported, during the evening of September 26, a fire broke out at an ammunition arsenal in Kalynivka district, leading to ammunition explosions. In the morning hours of September 28, the explosions ceased and the area was demined within a 5-kilometer radius.

Two people suffered as a result of the accident. More than 30,000 people were evacuated from local villages. Seven buildings were damaged.

Vinnytsia regional officials said on Thursday that after 15.00 evacuated residents could return home, adding that explosions occurred earlier that morning.
