Canadian, Ukrainian MPs discuss deploying UN peacekeepers to Donbas
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine's foreign affairs committee and Canada's House of Commons Standing Committee on National Defence of the Canadian House of Commons have discussed the issue of deploying a United Nations peacekeeping contingent to Donbas.
"Participants discussed the issue of deploying a UN peacekeeping mission to eastern Ukraine that would protect citizens from armed conflict and ensure the restoration of sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state, as well as changes for Ukraine's accession to NATO," Ukraine's parliament said on Monday.
Deputies noted the necessity to deepen bilateral cooperation, including in the economic and defense sectors.
Ukrainian lawmakers thanked their Canadian colleagues for support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and expressed the hope that by joint efforts they would be able to attain peace in eastern Ukraine and return temporarily occupied Crimea and Sevastopol to Ukraine.
