UN peacekeeping mission initiative should not distract from Minsk Agreements implementation
The initiative regarding the deployment of UN peacekeepers to Donbas should not distract the conflicting sides from their commitment to the Minsk Agreements, First Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) to Ukraine Alexander Hug said.
No initiative should distract the sides from their obligation to stop the conflict; the Minsk deal must be put into practice, Hug said at a roundtable with the theme, "Poroshenko's address to the UN. What should the Ukrainian President tell the world?" hosted by the Gorshenin Institute in Kyiv on Tuesday.
He said that the fulfillment of the Minsk Agreements requires political will.
The SMM has more than three years of experience in Donbas and is ready to offer consultations to other organizations, including, but not limited to, the United Nations, Hug said.
