Introduction of biometric control for Russian citizens, entering Ukraine, entirely justified
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has called the decision to introduce biometric control for Russian citizens entering Ukraine absolutely justified.
"I believe that this is a common practice and in the conditions when the country is an object of aggression by the Russian Federation this practice is fully justified," Poroshenko said at a briefing in Kharkiv.
"The decision of the National Security and Defense Council stipulates that from January 1, 2018 border crossing by citizens from the countries that pose risks to Ukraine (the list of these countries is approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine) must take place on biometric passports and for those who do not have them - there should be fixation of biometric data on the border. This does not mean there will be a ban, but border checkpoints should be equipped with the appropriate equipment and this will ensure fixation," Poroshenko said.
According to him, the procedure also provides for the fixation of foreigners in the place they are going to.
