Shabunin served notice of suspicion for premeditated assault
Law-enforcement officials have served Anti-Corruption Action Center head Vitaliy Shabunin a notice of suspicion for premeditated assault, the press service of the National Police of Ukraine has told the Kyiv-based Interfax-Ukraine news agency.
"The notice was served in agreement with prosecutors pursuant to Part 1 of Article 122 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine," police spokeswoman Oksana Blyschyk said.
Prosecutors will ask the court to release Shabunin on his own recognizance pending trial, a spokesperson for the Kyiv Prosector General's Office (PGO) said.
Prosecutors allege that "on June 8 the Anti-Corruption Action Center head on Lebedev St. in Kyiv punched citizen 'F' in the face, causing moderate damage." Evidence includes a video clip of the incident, medical examination of the victim, witness statements and the like.
If convicted of assault, Shabunin could be imprisoned for up to five years.
