Depriving Saakashvili of Ukrainian citizenship Kyiv's prerogative - U.S. ambassador to Georgia
The issue of the deprivation of Mikheil Saakashvili of Ukrainian citizenship is a prerogative of Ukraine and such issues should be resolved according to the principle of supremacy of law, U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Ian Kelly said.
Any person who can find himself in such situation should resolve this issue legally with assistance from competent lawyers as it is a legal issue and it should be resolved in accordance with the principle of supremacy of law, the ambassador said.
Kelly told reporters on Friday he cannot comment on the deprivation of Mikheil Saakashvili of Ukrainian citizenship. As to the position of the United States, Kelly said this issue is regarded from the point of view of international obligations and international law.
As to specific actions, it is an issue that needs to be resolved by the Ukrainian state, the ambassador said.
