Tillerson: U.S. wants to see effective anti-corruption reform in Ukraine
The United States wants to see anti-corruption reforms being implemented effectively in Ukraine, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has said.
"We've also discussed the importance of implementing of anti-corruption reforms, because that too is an important element of attracting foreign direct investment and more business activity, which will create more jobs for Ukrainian citizens and grow the economy," he said at a joint briefing with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in Kyiv on Sunday.
In his words, of particular importance in this context is "Ukraine's commitment to selecting Supreme Court justices of the highest integrity and professionalism" and creating the Anti-Corruption Court in the country.
"These are essential first steps in reforming the judiciary," he added.
