SBU prevents attack on Batkivschyna's Kyiv office masterminded in Russia as Constitution Day provocation
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has prevented an attack on the Batkivschyna office in Kyiv, which was planned by Russian special services.
"The SBU has received intelligence data about Russian special services' intentions to provoke large-scale protest actions in Ukraine. To this purpose, the persons who hide in the territory of the Russian Federation from Ukrainian justice were tasked with organizing an attack using explosive devices... on the office of the Batkivschyna All-Ukrainian Union in Kyiv," Head of the SBU National Security Department Viktor Kononenko said at a briefing in Kyiv on Monday.
He stressed that the intention of the foreign special service was to "sow discord between domestic politicians and the government as a result of an artificially created incident, provoke protest actions during the celebration of the Constitution Day of Ukraine."
"At 04:30, on June 26 the attackers were detained at the crime scene when they tried to throw a bottle of Molotov cocktail at the Batkivschyna office," the department head said.
