At least $5 billion is required to provide internally displaced persons (IDPs) with housing, Deputy Minister for Temporary Occupied Territories and IDPs Heorhiy Tuka has said.
"According to my calculations, at least $5 billion is required to provide them with houses… Unfortunately, the budget does not have these funds, and this amount of aid does not come from external sources," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.
Tuka also said that the ministry is working with Germany's KfW (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau).
"This bank would work in two directions. The first one is construction of socially important housing for IDPs, and the second is the provision of financial assistance to pay credits rates on the credits which IDPs will take to build own houses," he said.
Tuka said that the Cabinet of Ministers continues discussing the provision of housing for IDPs.
"I want to say that I have a feeling that by the end of the summer the decision would be made, and the funds will be provided from the national budget," he said.
