Yanukovych's defense insists on closing high treason case due to failure to comply with investigation deadlines
Former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych's defense team requested the Obolonsky District Court of Kyiv should send back to the prosecution service the bill indicting of high treason and the prosecution service should drop this case.
"The prosecution service should comply with the Criminal Procedure Code and drop this criminal case once the bill of indictment is sent back," lawyer Vitaliy Serdiuk said in court on Friday.
He said that the deadlines of the pre-trial inquiry and the period of its extension had been breached, which did not allow the court to hear merits of the high treason case.
Officers of the Main Military Prosecution Service raised objections and said that the inquiry fully complied with the regulations and there were no grounds to send back the bill of indictment.
