Poroshenko congratulates Maltese PM Muscat on winning snap elections
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has congratulated Prime Minister of Malta Joseph Muscat on his victory in the early general elections.
"Sincere congratulations to Prime Minister of Malta Joseph Muscat! Confident victory of the European politician and friend of Ukraine!" Poroshenko wrote on Twitter on Sunday afternoon.
According to Western media, Muscat told his supporters that people voted to continue his successful economic policy. His rival, a candidate from the Nationalist Party, Simon Busuttil, has already admitted defeat.
Muscat called the elections a month ago amid corruption allegations concerning his family.
