SBU bans Russian Eurovision participant Samoilova from entering Ukraine for three years
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has decided to impose a three-year entry ban on Russian singer Yulia Samoilova, who has been selected to participate in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Kyiv in May, SBU spokesperson Olena Hitlianska told Interfax-Ukraine.
"Ukraine's Security Service banned Russian citizen Yulia Samoilova from entering Ukraine for three years. This decision was taken based on the obtained data about her violating Ukraine's law," Hitlianska told the agency on Wednesday.
As reported, Yulia Samoilova with the song called 'Flame is Burning' was going to represent Russia at Eurovision 2017 in Kyiv. She is a person with special needs; she has been using a wheelchair since childhood.
The SBU earlier said it would check the reliability of information about possible visits of Samoilova to Crimea, occupied by Russia, and decide on her admission or non-admission to Ukraine after that.
On March 20, the SBU prepared a decision on the entry ban to Samoilova. "The document on the entry ban has been prepared," SBU head Vasyl Hrytsak told journalists.
