Taruta contests NBU head Gontareva's appointment in court
Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine deputy Serhiy Taruta has appealed to the High Administrative Court of Ukraine demanding that it void the resolution of parliament to appoint Valeriya Gontareva head of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).
Taruta together with the civil organization National Good of Ukraine, representing the rights of account holders of liquidated banks, say in the claim that Gontareva's appointment in June 2014 was illegal because parliament violated constitutional norms and three Ukrainian laws.
"There are more than enough grounds to dismiss Gontareva. The procedure under which she was appointed contains numerous egregious violations. This person has already inflicted such damage, billions of dollars worth. She should be sacked immediately and tried in court," Taruta told the Kyiv-based news agency Interfax-Ukraine.
