Militants shell Mayorsk check-point, one killed, one injured

Illegal armed groups on Wednesday morning fired from small arms at the territory near the Mayorsk check-point in Donetsk region killing one and wounding another civilian.

"As a result of the shelling 50 meters from the checkpoint, the bullets of terrorists hit civilians: one person was wounded in the shoulder and the other received a mortal wound in the head. The traffic in this area has been suspended, border guards immediately took people, who were waiting to enter the uncontrolled territory, outside the line of fire," the press service of the State Border Service of Ukraine reported.

The shelling took place around 09:00, when people were walking through the corridor across the contact line.

Spokesman for the Ukrainian Defense Ministry for the Anti-Terrorist Operation Andriy Lysenko told Interfax-Ukraine that militants conducted this shelling in order to destabilize situation in Ukraine.
