Klimkin on behalf of president invites new UN secretary general to visit Ukraine
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin and the newly elected UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres have discussed prospects for further cooperation in the organization’s headquarters.
"Guterres expressed gratitude for the Ukraine’s support of his candidacy in the UN Security Council, as well as for the invitation of the Ukrainian president to pay a visit to our country. During the meeting the sides discussed issues of further development of cooperation between Ukraine and the UN," the Foreign Ministry's press service said on Thursday.
As reported, on October 13, the UN General Assembly approved the candidature of the former prime minister of Portugal Guterres for the post of the UN Secretary General for the period from January 1, 2017 by December 31, 2021.
