Americans living or residing in Ukraine temporarily have already exercised their right to vote in the U.S. presidential election.
According to the U.S. Embassy's Consular Service, there are approximately 8,000 Americans residing permanently in Ukraine. In addition, there are American citizens in Ukraine on a temporary basis or travelling in Ukraine, bringing the number to 16,000. Those Americans, who decided to vote in Ukraine, have already voted by mail, as is usually done during American elections, the press service U.S. embassy told Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday.
The U.S. diplomatic mission said voting booths are not opened at the embassy, but ballots are cast according to the procedure proscribed the voter's home state.
It depends on rules, which are established by the election commissions in individual voting districts of the United States. Some states set schedules, while in others the procedure is proscribed by voting districts, the U.S. embassy's press service said.
