Ukraine needs anti-corruption court for transition period
Ukraine needs the anti-corruption court for the transition period to quickly hear cases in courts and refund losses, Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) Artem Sytnyk has said.
"I do not rule out that we would not need such an institution as the specialized anti-corruption court in the future, but today this court is required for the transition period," he said during the discussion on operations of NABU in Kyiv on Saturday.
He said that the volume of arrested assets that could be returned to the national budget is permantnly growing. Its cost is estimated at several billions of hryvnias now, but there are no court rulings to refund the losses.
He said that the creation of the anti-corruption court is intended to have no large time-lags between the end of the investigation and court decisions. Sytnyk recalled that at present the only chance to refund losses in criminal cases is good will of the defenders and they do not show it a lot.
