Ukraine too far from elections prospect in Donbas - Klimkin
The issue of organizing the elections in Donbas is a matter of distant prospect in the present context, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has said.
"As of today we are very far from proceeding to the issue of organizing the elections, because all necessary prerequisites on security need to be fulfilled for that. And fulfillment of these conditions will be evaluated both by us and by the OSCE, in particular, by the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights," Klimkin said during the question hour with the government.
Previously Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said after the 'Normandy format' negotiations in the early hours of Thursday that the local elections in Donbas may only be held after fulfillment of the conditions of ensuring security. Fulfillment of the specified security issues "should take precedence over proceeding to the implementation of a political part," a statement later posted on Poroshenko's Facebook page said.
