Poroshenko praises fact of Normandy format meeting as such after yearlong pause
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko sees Wednesday's negotiations in the Normandy format in Berlin as a fact important in itself.
"In fact, do you remember the skepticism that existed in August, when some said that the Normandy format had ceased to exist and won't be used anymore? I think the main news yesterday was that a Normandy format meeting finally took place," Poroshenko told journalists in Maastricht, the Netherlands.
It is also important that Ukraine's proposal on developing a roadmap for implementing the Minsk Agreements had been supported, Poroshenko said.
"I believe that, taking into account very skeptical expectations in the run-up to the meeting, we demonstrated very efficient coordination yesterday and insisted on Minsk's implementation exactly in the order on which we agreed in February 2015, and [acknowledged] that our agreements of September 5, 2014 and of September 19, 2014 are an important component of the entire Minsk process," he said.
