Health ministry: patients will be able to choose doctors by mid 2017
Deputy Health Minister Pavlo Kovtoniuk hopes patients will be able to choose their doctors, whose salary will depend on the number of patients they treat. He said the changes could be introduced by the middle of 2017.
"We would like to start from the doctor whom patients address first – the family doctor, general practitioners and pediatricians and apply the 'more patients more money' principle. This doctor would receive money for a real person whom he treats and who signs an agreement with the doctor," Kovtoniuk said on 1+1 TV channel.
He said that citizens would receive a chance to select own doctors themselves and doctors would receive salaries depending on the number of serviced patients.
The deputy minister said that thanks to the application of this principle revenue of doctors would considerably grow.
"I think that in spring or in the middle of 2017 we would tell patients: go and look for a doctor and sign an agreement with them," he said.
