Poroshenko emphasizes he is president of territorial integrity

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in his message to the Verkhovna Rada has clearly indicated that he intends to fight for the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the return of the status quo of 1991, Director of the Institute of Global Strategies Vadym Karasiov has said.

"Relatively fresh and more clearly emphasized thesis is the president’s statement that he is 'the president of the territorial integrity' and will seek to restore Ukraine's territorial borders of 1991. This statement was made in order to remove all sorts of speculation, manipulation and other types of information maneuvers around the future of the occupied territories," he told Interfax-Ukraine agency on Tuesday.

Karasiov stressed that familiar and traditional messages were also uttered, in particular, that there is no alternative either to the Minsk agreements or to the Minsk process. Neither ‘Normandy format" nor a political and diplomatic solution to the conflict in Donbas have a reasonable alternative.

"Statements about Donbas reintegration were expressed In a more accented way. Obviously, this is a reflection of the updated priorities of the state policy aimed at the de-occupation of the occupied territories, as particularly reflected in the program of the Cabinet of Ministers on restoration of these territories," the expert said.

Karasiov believes that the problem of territorial integrity of Ukraine and its recovery is becoming the most urgent task of the state of policy and authorities. According to him, this is the main imperative of state policy for 2016-2017.
