Ukrainian State Border Service could scrap conscription – border service head
Head of Ukraine's State Border Service Viktor Nazarenko has said that it is likely that the authority in autumn would scrap conscription.
"Wages were raised for border guards and this resulted in the increase in the number of contract servicemen. It is likely that we would scrap conscription this autumn," he said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
He recalled that this year the border service resumed conscription and around 4,000 servicemen enrolled. This was done, as there were no other options to increase the number of servicemen aiming at not allowing the worsening of the readiness of own divisions.
