Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko has said that the former head of the Party of Regions faction in the Verkhovna Rada, Oleksandr Yefremov, will be presented official charges raised against him within 24 hours, the Prosecutor General's Office will seek his arrest.
"The reason for his detention was the report about Yefremov's possible intentions to flee... I personally link the escape attempt with the fact that Yefremov learnt about the testimony against him," Lutsenko at the briefing in Kyiv on Saturday.
He noted that at present Yefremov is under investigation and will be presented charges against him in 24 hours.
Lutsenko said that the Prosecutor General's Office will request Yefremov's arrest as the offences he is charged with do not allow pre-trial restrictions in the form of house arrest or bail.
