U.S. Senate confirms new ambassador to Ukraine

The U.S. Senate has confirmed diplomat Marie Yovanovitch as the country's new ambassador to Ukraine, Interfax-Ukraine learned at the press service of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine.

As reported, U.S. President Barack Obama said he intended to appoint Yovanovitch new Ambassador to Ukraine. The incumbent head of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Ukraine, Geoffrey Pyatt, has been nominated by Obama for the post of U.S. ambassador to Greece.

Yovanovitch currently holds the post of Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. Earlier she held the post of Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine (2001-2004).

On May 31, Pyatt said that he will work as ambassador in Kyiv for at least a couple more months.

On June 1, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said they received documents for the rotation of the U.S. ambassador in Ukraine.
