NBU stress testing: 16 out of 20 largest banks needed additional capitalization
Findings of stress testing conducted by the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) among 20 largest banks in the country have shown the need for additional capitalization of 16 banks, NBU Governor Valeriya Gontareva said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.
Five of those 16 banks have completed a three-year additional capitalization program ahead of schedule, she said.
"Two banks [Khreschatyk and Fidobank] were withdrawn from the market because unwillingness or inability to fulfill their plans," she said.
She did not name the banks which managed to meet their capital requirements.
In 2016, the NBU has launched stress-testing at 40 more banks according to their ranking, she said.
All in all, these 60 banks account for 97% of the Ukrainian banking sector.
