Charges that Poroshenko evaded taxes turned out to be 'hot air' – Prosecutor general

Chief of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine (PGO) Yuriy Lutsenko says there are no grounds to accuse President Petro Poroshenko of tax evasion in the context of the Panama Papers leak and the tax evasions charges brought against him have turned to "be hot air."

"I think this entire so-called 'offshore scandal' gave people the opportunity to read the conclusions by the world's known law firms, which established that there are no grounds to accuse the president of not paying taxes or of any other unlawful acts not agreed with the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU)," Lutsenko said in Kyiv on Thursday.

Lutsenko said these are the international companies that "bear financial and legal responsibility" for their conclusions.

"This was demonstrated during the president's press conference during his dialogue with the initiator of the charges, which turned out to be hot air," Lutsenko said.
