Rada speaker: 14 journalists killed during Donbas military conflict
During Donbas military conflict nine journalists have been killed when covering military operations, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy has said.
"According to the statistics, nine journalists were killed while performing their official duties. Many journalists joined the army as volunteers: five journalists, who served in the army, were killed on the front line. A lot of journalists went through horror and hell of captivity," Parubiy told reporters in Kyiv on Tuesday.
The Ukrainian parliament speaker on Tuesday awarded 11 Ukrainian journalists who cover the military conflict in the ATO zone, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported.
More journalists were nominated, but some of them are currently in the antiterrorist operation zone in the east of Ukraine and they will also receive their awards in the nearest future, Ukrainian speaker's press secretary Andriy Kovalev said.
