Poroshenko sees no need for new wave of mobilization in Ukrainian army
A total of 22,000 servicemen have signed contracts for military service, and there is no need for a new wave of mobilization, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said.
"Now, despite what was said, that I should declare a new wave of mobilization in January, I made a decision instead of that, and we made a decision in close cooperation with the government, volunteers, and regional administration to increase the minimal monetary allowance up to UAH 7,000. The result is that 22,000 servicemen have become contract servicemen in the army since January 1," Poroshenko said during a meeting with the administration of the Zaporizhia region on Friday.
The president said contract servicemen have no problem with discipline, they are well-motivated and most of them have combat experience. "Among them there are no criminals, violators of military discipline, an overwhelming majority of them have gone through anti-terrorist operations. And now, there is no need for expensive and lengthy training, they know everything. I emphasize, once again, they all have come voluntarily," Poroshenko said.
