Ukraine's Defense Ministry expects 'additional assistance package' from NATO Warsaw summit

Kyiv expects a statement on the new package of assistance from the NATO countries at the NATO Warsaw summit scheduled for July, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Ihor Dolgov said.

"We expect not only a discussion of the situation, but, as it was earlier stated by high representatives of the alliance, that NATO will be ready to grant a new package of additional assistance to Ukraine. We expect this assistance to be aimed at supporting defense reform, a reform of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and strengthening of the security sector," he told reporters at the opening of the NATO international week in Kyiv on Monday.

Dolgov specified that it may be assistance in the form of new trust funds.

Speaking about the most acute problems in Ukraine's defense sphere, the deputy minister said these include in the first place a large number of mined territories in Donbas. "NATO continues working on the formation of a new trust fund to clear these territories of mines," he said.
