European Commission ready to file EU visa-free travel recommendations for Ukraine

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko says the European Commission is ready to file EU visa-free travel recommendations for Ukraine.

"I, as Ukrainian president, the Ukrainian government, the Ukrainian parliament and the people of Ukraine, are all glad to hear from the European Commission, from [its president] Jean-Claude Juncker, who will submit proposals for a visa-free regime for Ukraine," Poroshenko said after a meeting with President of the European Council Donald Tusk and President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker in Brussels on Thursday.

Poroshenko said he had briefed the European politicians about the positive steps Ukraine has taken to introduce reforms. "In the past months, Ukraine has launched a legislation revolution, introducing e-declarations, special confiscation [of stolen assets] and [has succeeded in] the fight against corruption," he said.

Poroshenko said Ukraine has already complied with all the criteria for visa-free travel to the European Union.
