Tymoshenko forecasts Poroshenko may announce snap parliamentary election by weekend

Leader of the Batkivschyna parliamentary faction Yulia Tymoshenko says that the parliamentary majority coalition ceased to exist 25 days ago.

"For the 25th day today there is no coalition in parliament. I ask my colleagues not to even mention the coalition, because it does not exist. The 30-day term for creating a new parliamentary majority coalition expires in five days. The president will then have the right to call a snap election to the Verkhovna Rada. Another option is for the president to begin holding consultations with parliamentary faction leaders to create a new majority coalition, which will form a new government," Tymoshenko said at a meeting of parliamentary leaders on March 14.

Tymoshenko said no political consultations had been held in the past three weeks. She called on all political forces to immediately start talks and disband the incumbent Cabinet of Ministers.

Chairman of Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman said earlier that 237 MPs constitute the parliamentary coalition de jure, although three factions had left it de facto. MPs from Oleh Liashko's Radical Party have not withdrawn their signatures from the current coalition agreement.

In keeping with Ukraine's Constitution, the president is empowered to dissolve parliament in the event deputies are unable to form a majority coalition within 30 days.
