Poroshenko wants Ukrainian parliament to take responsibility for recovery from crisis

The Verkhovna Rada should take responsibility for resolving the ongoing political crisis in the country, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said.

"I think that the parliament should finally assume responsibility rather than hold a controversial position, assume the responsibility and find a way out of the objective crisis together, without shifting this responsibility on anyone," Poroshenko said in Vinnytsia on Monday, answering questions from the media.

The problem is not about "the coalition or the opposition," he said. "The authorities need to be reset. This is what people want. The government has clearly announced it understood that need," he said.

Poroshenko strongly opposed early parliamentary elections.

"However, we should not sprinkle ashes upon our heads or take steps that could lead to chaos or disintegration of the country. I have definitively stated in my address that I am against early parliamentary elections. People have done everything they could - they demonstrated their will, voted and elected those who formed pro-European forces in the parliament. The vote for 'visa-free travel' laws in the parliament is an illustrative confirmation to that," Poroshenko said.
