Ukraine's health ministry reports increase in flu death toll to 313 people
Influenza and its complications have killed 313 people in Ukraine during this epidemic season, which started late in September 2015, the Ukrainian Health Ministry has said in its update.
"According to recent reports, 313 flu deaths, including five children under 17 (in Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk and Poltava regions) and two pregnant women (in Zaporizhia and Kirovohrad regions), have been confirmed by laboratories since the beginning of this epidemic season. Most of deaths were registered in Odesa region (40), the city of Kyiv (37), Cherkasy region (22), Donetsk region (24), and Lviv region (18)," the health ministry said.
A total of 161,000 people with preliminary diagnosis of flu and acute respiratory viral infection have been taken to hospital in Ukraine since the beginning of the epidemic season. Their share is 4.3% of all the people with diagnosed flu. Children under 17 accounted for 64.9% of all the hospitalized.
