Poroshenko vows to exercise his right to dissolve Rada only as last resort
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has declined the idea of dissolving the Verkhovna Rada, vowing to exercise this right only as a last resort.
"The Verkhovna Rada's dissolution is not the president's obligation but only his right. And I will exercise it only as a last resort, which we shouldn't allow to happen," Poroshenko said in an address to the nation on Tuesday.
The country has no resources to plunge into an election campaign for the fourth time in less than two years, especially amid aggression from the outside, he said.
"A domestic political war in which all fight all is our northeastern neighbor's dream. This is why I've taken the floor and offered my vision as to how to overcome the crisis in order to avoid the worst-case scenario," he said.
The problem of the restoration of confidence should be resolved by the existing parliament, he said.
