Rada ratifies changes to agreement on trade aspects of intellectual property rights simplifying imports of generics
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has acceded to the protocol amending the agreement on trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights.
Some 231 MPs endorsed corresponding bill No. 0079 at a meeting on February 3.
The protocol foresees simplified procedures for imports of generic medicines (medicines that have the same qualitative and quantitative composition of active substances and the identical health properties as the original drugs, but whose price is lower than that of the originals protected by patent).
According to an explanatory note to the document, Ukraine's accession to the protocol could contribute to resolving the problem of the public's access to medicines.
The protocol is an integral part of documentation on the existence of the World Trade Organization.
