Interpol denies request for putting Pshonka on wanted list quoting evidence as unconvincing – Ukraine's PGO
Interpol has denied a request to put former Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Pshonka on the wanted list allegedly due to the weakness of the evidence submitted by the competent authorities of Ukraine, the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine has said.
"[Interpol] denied the request concerning Pshonka as regards economic crimes, where he is suspected of taking possession of the funds intended for the construction of the building of the Prosecutor General's Office," Head of the Special Investigations Unit of the Main Investigation Department of the PGO Serhiy Horbatiuk told journalists in Kyiv on Friday.
When asked how Interpol explained its refusal, the representative of the Prosecutor General's Office said: "They believe that the suspicions are allegedly unconvincing... that they are not getting enough evidence. They did not ask for it. This would be one thing if they said: 'Give us the evidence', and having examined it said that it was not enough. But they didn't ask for it. They do not have such authority to demand evidence," Horbatiuk said.
