Ukraine, international partners discuss judicial mechanisms for punishing culprits of MH17 disaster
Ukraine and its international partners have discussed the legal mechanisms of punishing the culprits of the Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 disaster that could be used after the Dutch report is made public, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has said.
"It is important that we come to an agreement, that all five states [most affected by the disaster] definitely have a common stance and will work together in future. It is important to understand how we can find those responsible for this tragedy who have Russian citizenship," he told journalists in Leiden, the Netherlands, on Friday.
He said that there are two options on how to ensure justice, either via national jurisdiction or a tribunal which could be set up on the basis of a separate agreement between Ukraine and the Netherlands, but the Dutch experts must complete their investigation first.
The Boeing-777 Malaysia Airlines plane with the flight number MH17 en route from Amsterdam to Kuala-Lumpur crashed on July 17, 2014 in the eastern part of Donetsk region near the village of Hrabove, not far from the city of Torez. The jet had 283 passengers and 15 crew members on board, all of whom died.
