Ukrainian army ready to rebuff external threat - Poroshenko
The Ukrainian Armed Forces are ready to deter a possible aggression, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said.
"We can definitely say now that in case the aggressor mounts offensive operations we have a way for kicking it in the teeth and stopping the enemy," he said at a scientific-and-practical conference summarizing results of command-and-staff drills at the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff on Wednesday.
Considering the escalation of the conflict in the eastern regions of the country, Russia's failure to comply with the Minsk Agreements and the denied access of OSCE monitors to heavy weapon storage sites, Ukraine needs a high degree of combat preparedness, discipline, morale and martial spirit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Ukrainian Security Service and law enforcement agencies, he said.
Global destabilization requires that "our ability to respond to circumstances be taken to a whole new level," Poroshenko said.
